Patna: A Hindu girl, who married a Muslim youth, was “purified” with Hindu rituals amid chanting of Vedic mantras at a local temple before allowing her entry to her parents’ home in Munger district when she returned after one week, after deciding to separate with the boy.
Police have not arrested anyone from the boy’s side, stating that the girl had eloped and entered into a wedlock at her own will.

The girl eloped with the boy on Dec 29 and entered into a wedlock the next day. She also solemnised her marriage in a Munger court. With vermilion on her hair parting, she later issued a video in which she claimed she married the youth on her own. The couple also registered their marriage with the Arya Samaj Vedic Sanskar Trust at Tis Hazari in New Delhi.
Her father, however, registered a case against seven persons of the youth’s family with a police station in Munger, alleging his daughter was kidnapped and sought police help for her recovery.
On Tuesday evening, the girl appeared in the local court and recorded her statement, stating she had gone with the youth on her own, but now she wanted to stay with her parents. “After conducting her medical examination and recording her statement, we handed the girl over to her parents,” the SHO told TOI on Wednesday.
He said no one was arrested in this case since the girl denied her kidnapping.
At her parents home, according to Hindu rituals, she underwent “purification” rituals at the local temple.
“The boy and his parents treated me well and allowed me to talk to my parents,” the girl told the reporters, adding it was the boy’s parents who accompanied her to the courtroom.
Her mother said, “It is a happy reunion.”
