Woman mukhiya among four killed in Bihar in 24 hours

Four people, including a woman mukhiya were killed and two others were seriously injured in four separate incidents in the state during the last 24 hours on Friday. While two killings were reported from Begusarai, one each was reported from Vaishali and Samastipur districts.

BEGUSARAI/SITAMARHI/PATNA: Four people, including a woman mukhiya were killed and two others were seriously injured in four separate incidents in the state during the last 24 hours on Friday. While two killings were reported from Begusarai, one each was reported from Vaishali and Samastipur districts.
Sources said that unidentified armed criminals shot dead a woman mukhiya Hema Murya of Samsa panchayat during an idol immersion of Goddess Saraswati in the canal at Samsa village under the Naokothi police station area in Begusarai district on Friday.

Police said the incident took place when Hema was taking part in the procession.
On getting information, DIG, Begusarai range, Rajesh Kumar rushed to the spot and pacified the supporters of the slain mukhiya, who were demanding immediate arrest of the killers. The DIG didn’t rule out the involvement of one Bambam Mahto, whose son was killed earlier. Bambam, who had accused the slain mukhiya’s close relative Ranjeet of killing his young son, is absconding after the incident.
In another incident, a 40-year-old man, Sanjay Mahto, was gunned down by some armed criminals at Paharpur village under the Balia police station area in Begusarai district late on Friday night. The assailants attacked Sanjay and his uncle Ramdev Mahto when they had gone to their agricultural field to irrigate the crops.
Begusarai SDPO Anjani Kumar said that land dispute is stated to be the reason behind the incident. Altogether six persons have been named as accused in the FIR lodged with the Balia police station in connection with the incident. “One of the six named accused has already been arrested and raids were underway to nab others,” the SDPO said.
In Vaishali district, Gulshan Singh, a resident of Patedha village, was killed by unidentified armed miscreants near Rampur village under Belsar police outpost on Friday. Police said the incident occurred when the deceased was returning home from Jarang village on his motorbike. Sources said that Gulshan was involved in illicit liquor smuggling in the area.
A 22-year-old youth, Golden Kumar Singh, was gunned down by unidentified armed criminals on NH-28 under the Dalsinghsarai police station area in Samastipur district on Friday. He was stated to be a resident of Muktapur village under the Bhagwanpur police station area of the district.
