Woman, 2 sons convicted of kidnapping

A woman and her two sons have been sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment by ADJ-V, Munger, Jyoti Swaroop Shrivastava, for kidnapping a schoolgirl and demanding Rs 5 lakh ransom.

Munger: A woman and her two sons have been sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment by ADJ-V, Munger, Jyoti Swaroop Shrivastava, for kidnapping a schoolgirl and demanding Rs 5 lakh ransom. The court on Tuesday also fined Rs5,000 each on the three convicts -- Shobha Devi (48), Anand Kumar (27) and Amit Kumar (28).Additional public prosecutors Ramsevak Mandal and Md Jehangir said Pragaya Kumari, 14, a student of Notre Dame Academy, Munger, was kidnapped by Anand and Amit on May 5, 2012, when she was returning home from the school. Her father Ramendra Kumar Singh, a revenue tehsildar and a resident of Belan Bazar locality under Kashimbazar police station area in Munger town, had lodged an FIR in this connection.
