Bettiah: A court in Bagaha in West Champaran district, on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old woman to life imprisonment for stabbing her husband to death. The judgment was delivered by additional district and sessions judge-IV Manvendra Mishra at the Bagaha Civil Court. The convict, Neha alias Noorjahan, was also fined Rs1 lakh. In default of payment, she will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place between 1.30 am and 2 am on June 23, 2025, under the jurisdiction of Dhanha police station. Neha allegedly attacked her husband Manoj with a knife at their residence. He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. An FIR was registered as Dhanha Police Station Case No. 204/25 and investigation was initiated.

Additional public prosecutor Jitendra Bharti said the victim had given a dying declaration before his death, naming his wife as the assailant. The court treated the statement as key evidence. Manoj’s mother also testified that her son, bleeding profusely, had reached the door seeking help.
During the trial, police produced the knife allegedly used in the crime and submitted a video recording of the dying declaration. The court conducted the proceedings under a speedy trial, examined eight witnesses and delivered the verdict within about 30 days. The couple is survived by two minor children. “This judgment will send a positive message in society,” Bharti said.
