Officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathodi police station, Samastipur district, Din Bandhu Jha was beaten up and was taken hostage by the irate villagers after they caught him trying to outrage the modesty of Dalit woman.
SAMASTIPUR: Officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathodi police station, Samastipur district, Din Bandhu Jha was beaten up and was taken hostage by the irate villagers after they caught him trying to outrage the modesty of Dalit woman Ranjana Devi of Lalpur Tola of the village on Sunday evening. His revolver and mobile phone were also snatched by the villagers. However, on getting information, policemen from nearby police stations rushed to the village and rescued Jha and forced the villagers to return his revolver and mobile phone.
The villagers alleged that Jha in a drunken state entered the house of Ranjana and tried to rape her. However, when she and her sister raised an alarm, villagers assembled and caught the officer in-charge. Samastipur SP Surendra Lal Das and SDPO Rosra Chandrika Prasad rushed to the village on Monday to inquire into the incident. Later, on phone the SP said action would be taken against those found guilty in the case.
