Vikram Samvat 2059 celebrated

patna: the new year, vikram samvat,2059, started from saturday. the day marked the beginning of vasant navratra, anine-day worship of goddess durga during the hindi month of chaitra. bharatsanchar nigam ltd (bsnl) marked the day in a novel fashion by playing the words,"best wishes for the new year with the start of vikram samvat 2059". accordingto the thakur prasad calender, the vikram samvat starts from 16th day of theholi festival which was celebrated this year on march 29. after holi, krishnapakscha of the hindi month calander ran for 15 days till april 12 which was thelast day of vikram samvat year, 2058. the first day of shukla paksch startingfrom saturday (april 13) was celebrated by people here.
