VIB arrests BDO in Gaya for taking ₹50,000 bribe
Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Monday arrested block development officer (BDO), Rakesh Kumar, while accepting a bribe of Rs50,000 in Gaya on Monday.
The arrest was made after pramukh of the block filed a complaint alleging that the BDO demanded Rs1 lakh to pass a school boundary wall construction plan under the 15th Finance Commission scheme. The vigilance team laid a trap and apprehended the BDO as he received the first instalment of the bribe amount, Rs50,000, from the pramukh at her office. The BDO was taken into custody and brought to Patna for further investigation.
The accused is posted as BDO in the Town block of Gaya. The block head (pramukh), Suchita Ranjani, of the same block, filed a complaint at the VIB Patna office alleging that Rakesh demanded the bribe to release payment for the construction of a boundary wall at a govt school.
Upon receiving the complaint, the vigilance team verified it. At the scheduled time, the amount was given in the pramukh’s chamber located at the Town block office. As soon as the BDO took the money, the vigilance team caught him.
Ranjani alleged that the BDO demanded the money in the name of inspecting schemes and forwarding files. “This is not the first time the officer demanded a bribe. The BDO’s behaviour was suspicious from the beginning. Allegations can be verified from other block employees,” she said.
After the arrest, the vigilance team started searching the BDO’s office and residence. VIB dy SP Satyendra Rai said, “After the complaint of demanding a bribe was registered, a trap was laid. The BDO was arrested while accepting the bribe. The BDO demanded a total of Rs1 lakh. He will be produced in the vigilance special court on Tuesday for further legal action.”
