Two property dealers shot dead in Rohtas
Sasaram: Two property dealers were shot dead in Dumariya village under Sasaram Muffasil police station area of Rohtas district on Sunday evening, triggering panic and tension in the locality.
The deceased were identified as Rupesh Singh alias Mantu (35) son of Jaleshwar Singh, a resident of Uchaila village under Amjhor police station area, and Vinay Kumar Prajapati, a native of Tilouthu village under the same police station. Vinay was a former block development councillor (BDC) member and owned a medical store. Both were jointly engaged in the property dealing business.
According to preliminary information and family members’ statements, the double murder is linked to an ongoing land dispute. A panchayat meeting was reportedly convened on Sunday over a disputed piece of land. During the meeting, the assailants allegedly opened fire on both. Sources claimed that several rounds were fired, and both men sustained more than 10 bullet injuries, leading to their death on the spot.
Another account suggests that both were called to the village by a local strongman on the pretext of resolving the dispute. After they arrived in a vehicle, they were allegedly shot dead. Rupesh Singh’s brother, Chintu Kumar, has accused Pappu Singh of orchestrating the killings. Family members have also alleged the involvement of a notorious criminal.
Upon receiving information, Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar rushed to the incident site. The police sent the bodies to Sadar Hospital, Sasaram, for postmortem. Security has been beefed up in the area, and an investigation has been initiated by the police station concerned.
The SP said all aspects of the case were being thoroughly investigated and the accused have been identified. “Raids are going on to arrest the accused,” the SP said.
