Two killed in Araria road accident

Patna: Two men, including an SSB jawan, died after their speeding motorcycle crashed into a police jeep parked along the Araria–Raniganj road near the Girhinda showroom in Araria district early Friday.

The deceased were identified as Sudhir Kumar Kushwaha (42), a resident of Araria RS Ward 4 and a jawan of the 52nd Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) posted at the Araria headquarters, and Vicky Kumar Jaiswal (35), a resident of Forbesganj Training School Chowk, Ward 21. Vicky’s wife is a teacher at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School, Araria RS.


According to police, both had attended a wedding ceremony in Araria RS on Thursday night. Around 1:45am on Friday, Sudhir was dropping Vicky at the Araria bus stand on his motorcycle when the bike, reportedly at high speed, rammed into a police jeep parked along the roadside near the Girhinda showroom.

The impact left both riders critically injured. Locals and police personnel rushed them to Araria Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. News of the deaths triggered grief in their neighbourhoods.

Traffic police station in-charge Prem Kumar said both bodies have been taken into custody for post-mortem. He added that legal formalities are underway and the cause of the accident is being investigated.

Meanwhile, residents alleged that overspeeding, coupled with poor lighting and inadequate signage along the stretch at night, contributed to the crash. They demanded immediate corrective measures and enhanced road safety arrangements to prevent such incidents. IANS
