Two held for illegal activities at city hospital
Patna: Following the instructions of Patna DM Thiyagarajan S M, an FIR was registered against two people for engaging in unauthorised activities at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH).
The two were found in possession of a prescription slip from a medicine store, sterile hypodermic syringes and 103 adhesive swabs. They were apprehended during a raid conducted by a joint team of magistrates, police and health officials. A case was registered at the Alamganj police station for further investigation.
The DM said such inspections were being conducted across health institutions to stop agents of private nursing homes and pharmacies from misleading patients within govt premises. He said the administration had received reports that such individuals were diverting patients to private diagnostic centres and hospitals, thereby obstructing the implementation of govt welfare schemes.
In line with state govt orders, the district administration has been carrying out surprise inspections involving magistrates, police officers and health department officials to curb these activities. Referring to raids conducted at PMCH and NMCH, the district magistrate said the exercise would continue on a regular basis to ensure strict compliance with legal norms.
Legal action, he said, was being taken against middlemen who deprived the public of govt medical facilities and interfered with welfare programmes. He added that govt employees found to be complicit in such activities would be identified and penalised.
Hospital superintendents have also been directed to ensure transparent and accountable service delivery to patients. The administration maintained that providing healthcare to citizens was a priority, and warned that any laxity, negligence or irregularity would invite strict legal action against those responsible.
