Gaya: A police vehicle was damaged in stone-pelting by a mob on Karma Road under Sindhugarh police station area of Gaya on Monday morning. The incident took place when a police team went to the village to take action against a tractor driver allegedly transporting sand illegally.
According to the police, the tractor driver emptied the sand and raised an alarm when stopped, prompting local residents to gather at the spot. The villagers questioned the police action, claiming there was no sand in the trolley, and demanded the driver’s release. When their attempts failed, the agitating crowd pelted stones at the police team, damaging the windshield of a police vehicle. However, no police personnel were injured in the incident.
Police used mild force to disperse the crowd and detained two persons from the spot for questioning.
Sindhugarh station house officer Nilesh Kumar said CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to identify others involved in the attack. “Additional police force has been deployed and the situation is under control,” he said.
