GAYA: In a joint operation by Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Kolkata, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Gaya police, the skin of a tiger was seized and two smugglers were arrested from Tekari area in the district on Wednesday night. The arrested persons were identified as Kundan Kumar and Abhinav Anand, both residents of Tekari.
Divisional forest officer (DFO), Gaya, Rajeev Ranjan Kumar on Thursday said the WCCB provided inputs regarding delivery of the tiger skin to a person in Tekari under the same police station area.
"Acting on the tip-off, a police team led by Gaya SSP Ashish Bharti laid a trap and nabbed Kundan and Abhinav. The tiger skin was recovered from the car they were travelling in. However, a woman from Jamshedpur, who was involved in this illegal trade, managed to escape," he said.
Tekari sub-divisional police officer Gulshan Kumar also interrogated the smugglers in order to collect more information regarding other members of the racket and later forwarded the duo to Gaya central jail. A case has been registered against the arrested smugglers under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, at the forest department office in Gaya.
