Trader murder case: CBI probe demanded
PATNA: Several women associations and voluntary organisations have demanded a CBI probe into the murder of businessman, Subodh Kumar Jhunjhunwala. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Janhit Kala Sansthan secretary Minakshi Swaraj accused the Patna police of carrying out a biased probe into the murder which was aimed at shielding the real murderer.
Jhunjhunwala was found killed on July 17.

The police zeroed on the family of an employee of Jhunjhunwala and arrested the employee’s wife, Chanda and his 15-year-old daughter, Puja. The police theory is that the murder of Jhunjhunwala was executed by the employee, Bipin Singh and the boyfriend of Puja, Sanjeev, because the slain businessman was having an illicit relationship with her (Puja). Swaraj stressed that Puja was a normal girl child and alleged that the police had arrested Chanda and Puja on the basis of a confessional statement made by Puja under pressure from the police. "No statement was taken from the girl’s mother," she pointed out and wondered how the police had kept a minor girl inside the jail instead of a remand home. She said that the police had forcibly opened the door of their house after mid-night and taken the confessional statement from Puja. "There was no woman police constable or officer as required by law," Swaraj stated.
She pointed out that no FIR was lodged by the family members of Jhunjhunwala and that an FIR was instituted by a police constable of Pataliputra police station. She further pointed out that there had been a distribution of property of Jhunjhunwala one week before he was killed and dispute over distribution could have been the reason for the murder which the police had failed to investigate. "The Bipin Singh family drew financial benefit from Jhunjhunwala so why should they murder him?" she asked. She claimed that Puja and her mother were victims in this case and not the accused. "If the police have identified the murderer, why have they failed to arrest him?" she asked. She demanded release of Chanda and Puja and compensation to the mother and girl.
