Three police personnel, including DG (Ops), get gallantry awards
Patna: Three Bihar police officials and personnel, including director general (operations) Kundan Krishnan, sub-inspector Arjun Lal and constable Jitendra Singh, were selected for the gallantry award on the occasion of Republic Day. The award recognises exceptional courage and devotion to duty.
Krishnan was honoured with the award for excellence in a field duty. He suppressed the prisoners’ revolt in Chhapra Jail in 2002.
For distinguished service, the President’s Police Medal was announced for two officers, while 17 officers and personnel will receive medals for meritorious service. A notification in this regard was issued by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) on Sunday.
During the operation in Chhapra Jail, 28 police personnel, including Krishnan, were injured, and four prisoners lost their lives. Despite the challenges, the situation was brought under control without any mass escape from the prison.
Two police officers, DSP Umesh Lal Rajak and sub-inspector Navratna Kumar, will be awarded the President’s medal for their distinguished service. This medal is given for exemplary and outstanding work in the police service over a long period.
As many as 17 police officers and personnel will receive the Meritorious Service Medal for their exceptional service. The recipients include IG Daljeet Singh, AIG Rajiv Ranjan-II, and commandant Ajay Kumar Pandey, among others. These awards recognise the dedication and hard work of Bihar Police personnel in maintaining law and order and serving the nation.
Apart from this, DSP Shailesh Mishra, sub-inspectors Md Ainul Haq, Rishikesh Kumar, Manoj Kumar and Nikku Kumar Singh and ASI Nagendra Pandey will also be honoured for their outstanding work.
Head constables Sanjay Kumar Singh, Sukda Urao, Dharmendra Kumar, Jawahar Lal Mandal, Umesh Kumar Singh, Om Prakash and Md Rafi and constable Manoj Kumar Singh, who provided excellent service at the ground level, will also be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.
In addition to the Bihar Police personnel, two officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will also be awarded the Police Medal for meritorious service. DSP Ruby Chaudhary and head constable Bhola Rai will be recognised for their effective action against corruption and successful investigation of complex cases.
