The court of ADJ-I on Saturday awarded life term to three accused in connection with the Anil Kumar Bubna kidnapping case.
HAJIPUR: The court of ADJ-I on Saturday awarded life term to three accused under Sections 364 (A) and 368 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with the much-publicised Anil Kumar Bubna kidnapping case. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the accused and said that if the accused failed to deposit the amount, they would have to undergo six months' imprisonment.
Earlier on May 16, 2007, the ADJ-I court had found the three accused guilty in the kidnapping case and had absolved three other accused for want of evidence. Though the complaint of kidnapping was lodged against unknown persons by the victim's father with the Hajipur Town police station, the police, after investigation of the case, submitted chargesheet against nine persons in the kidnapping case.
Public prosecutor (PP) Azam Hussain told TOI that while two of the accused — Neeraj Kumar and Subodh Jha — had been sentenced to undergo life imprisonment under Section 364 (A) of IPC, the third accused — Ram Babu Rai — had been awarded life sentence under Section 368 of the IPC. Police sources revealed that Anil Kumar Bubna, son of a cinema hall-owner Nawal Kishore Bubna, was kidnapped from Paan Haat locality under the Hajipur Town police station on July 22, 2002, while the victim along with his father was on way to Hajipur in a car.
As they reached Paan Haat locality, another four-wheeler overtook them and forced the duo to stop their vehicle. As they stopped the vehicle, occupants of the other car forced Nawal out of the vehicle and sped with Anil. Police further stated that Nawal informed the local police about the incident which swung into action and arrested one of the kidnappers, who disclosed about the whereabouts of the victim. A police team later rescued Anil Kumar Bubna from the house of a mukhiya Ram Babu Rai at Naya Gaon in Saran district. While the state was represented by the Public Prosecutor Azam Hussain, the defence counsel was Umashankar Singh. Five given life term: The Fast Track Court-5 on Friday awarded life term to five accused in connection with the kidnapping of one Harihar Thakur on January 14, 1999. Court sources said that the court awarded life imrprisonment to Barun Singh and Tribhuvan Sah, residents of Ghataro Tola, Ram Nagar under Kartaha police station, Ramchandra Rai, Harendra Rai and Ramnath Sah, all residents of Kanchanpur Dhanushi village. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 3,000 each on the accused. Police sources revealed that on January 14, 1999, Harihar Thakur had left with the aforesaid five accused from his village Kanchanpur Dhanuki and did not return home. On January 16, the victim's brother, Birendra Kumar, lodged a complaint with Kartaha police outpost, police sources added.
