Three awarded life term in murder case
Sasaram: The court of district judge-IV Anil Kumar on Wednesday sentenced three convicts to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 30,000 each for the murder of one Rohit Raj alias Ramu in a six-year-old case. The incident took place in the Takiya locality under Sasaram Town police station on Sept 6, 2019.
The convicts — Kailash Khatik alias Kailash Sonkar and Jitendra Khatik alias Jitendra Sonkar, both residents of Takiya in Sasaram, and Pradeep Khatik, a resident of Kadirganj under Darigaon — were found guilty after a full trial. The FIR was registered at Sasaram Town police station and the matter was heard in the court of district judge-IV.
According to public prosecutor Anil Kumar Singh, Rohit had left his home around 6.30am on the day of the incident, informing his family that he was going to meet the accused at the Takiya High School ground. When he did not return by night, his father Kashi Prasad, along with his uncle Banarasi Prasad, began searching for him.
Workers present at the school ground, who were preparing a Durga Puja pandal, told the family that Rohit had an altercation with the accused, who allegedly forced him onto a motorcycle and took him towards the main road. Despite searching throughout the night, the family could not locate him and later informed the police.
The following day, police recovered a body from the Chitauli canal, which was identified by family members as that of Rohit.
The prosecution stated that the motive behind the murder was a land dispute between the two families.
