Three persons were arrested on Monday for their suspected involvement in a case of theft committed under Jakkanpur police station area on October 13 last.

PATNA: Three persons were arrested on Monday for their suspected involvement in a case of theft committed under Jakkanpur police station area on October 13 last. One pistol, an autorickshaw, three motorcycles, three live cartridges and Rs 15,000 were seized from their possession. Some looted bounty was also recovered by the police.
While Vikash Kumar and Sonu Kumar are the thieves, Suraj Kumar Khatri is the receiver of stolen goods.

SSP Jitendra Rana said Vikash has several cases against him registered in Shastrinagar, Gardanibagh and Jakkanpur police stations. He has also served jail terms. Police were trying to ascertain the background of the other two.
About the modus operandi of the gang, the SSP said locked flats were their soft targets. The thieves used to do the reconnaissance on motorbikes during the day time and break into vulnerable flats at night, he added.
The SSP was informed about some burglars operating from a rented accommodation in ‘B-area’ of Mithapur. Policemen were deployed in mufti and three persons were arrested while the raid was on to arrest their associates.
Rana said the arrested persons confessed their involvement in around a dozen cases of burglary. He said the last time they broke into an apartment in an area under Gardanibagh police station and purchased three motorcycles and an autorickshaw from the money they received by selling the stolen jewellery. They used the autorickshaw for transporting the stolen booty.
He said the jewellery was sold to two goldsmiths at Paliganj and Alamganj. Gold ornaments worth around Rs 4.5 lakh was sold at Paliganj and of Rs 2.5 lakh was sold at Alamganj. Interestingly, the make and model of the three motorcycles seized by the cops is the same and they bear consecutive registration numbers: BR-01-CE-8400, BR-01-CE-8401 and BR-01-CE-8402.
