Tension in Araria over social media post, 1 arrested

Patna: Tension gripped the Jogbani police station area of Araria district on Friday after a youth’s comment on an ‘I Love Muhammad’ post on a social media platform triggered a dispute between two groups. While one group tried to forcibly close shops, the other resisted, leading to stone pelting.

On being alerted, force from several police stations rushed to the spot. Araria district magistrate Anil Kumar and superintendent of police Anjani Kumar Singh also visited the area and convened a peace committee meeting with leaders of both groups.

The youth who made the comment was taken into custody for interrogation, police said.

Jogbani SHO Rajiv Kumar Azad said, “After the accused commented on the post, a complaint was filed by the opposite group, leading to the arrest of the accused. The situation is under control now.”
