Tejashwi slams govt over delay in teacher recruitment examination

Patna: Leader of opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Thursday targeted the govt over the delay in teacher recruitment exam (TRE)4,0, accusing the BJP-JD(U) administration of ignoring Bihar’s youth and failing to release teacher recruitment vacancies nearly a year after a public promise was made. Calling the issue one directly linked to the interests of Bihar’s youth, Yadav urged the NDA govt to release the TRE-4.0 vacancies without further delay.

Leaders of his party, including spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav, also targeted the state govt over the law and order situation in Bihar.

These attacks came on the day CM Nitish Kumar left for Delhi and a day ahead of his oath for membership of the Rajya Sabha.

In a sharp statement, Yadav said during the 17-month Mahagathbandhan govt, the education department was under the RJD quota and teacher recruitment under TRE-1 and TRE-2 was carried out on a “war footing” within the stipulated time, without paper leaks and with full transparency. He claimed that appointment letters were issued and joining completed for a record more than 2.20 lakh candidates.

Yadav said the process for TRE-3.0 had also been initiated during his tenure, but after the Mahagathbandhan went out of govt in Jan 2024, the examination was cancelled because of a paper leak and was later conducted only after a delay.

Targeting chief minister Nitish Kumar, the RJD leader said that in the election year 2025, Kumar had promised through a pre-written social media post that vacancies for teachers in govt schools would be counted and the TRE-4.0 examination would be held soon. He said that despite nearly one year passing since that announcement, the govt has still not released even the vacancy details for TRE-4.0.

Yadav further said that as per the BPSC calendar, the examination should have been conducted in August 2024. He alleged that the ruling alliance failed to understand the needs of the youth and later indicated that the examination would be held in October 2025 so that it would be pushed back once the model code of conduct came into force. According to him, that is what happened, and even after elections and the formation of the govt, teacher aspirants continue to wait.

Drawing a contrast with his own tenure as deputy chief minister, Yadav said that in 17 months he had provided jobs to 5 lakh youth and initiated the process for more than 3.50 lakh additional appointments.

Hitting back at Tejashwi, JD(U) spokesperson Anjum Ara said it was under Nitish Kumar that TRE-1 and TRE-2 were conducted. “Nitish Ji was the CM and not Tejashwi. In fact, it was because of Nitish Ji that Tejashwi became the deputy CM. In fact people involved in scams like land for job have no moral value to talk about corruption.” She further said the notification and application process related to TRE-4 was in the final stage.
