ARA: A 16-year-old boy was allegedly tied to an electric pole and beaten to death by five people on suspicion of breaking into a grocery shop in Badka Gaon village under Tarari police station of Bhojpur district early on Friday. Four of the five accused have been arrested.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 2am when, the five, including the shop owner, started beating him up mercilessly, alleging they caught him breaking into the grocery store.
“He kept asking for water, but his tormentors kept beating him mercilessly. I, along with some other villagers, tried to set him free from their clutches, but the perpetrators did not yield till he was almost dead. Seeing him almost succumbing to his injuries, the accused themselves called police on phone and handed him over to them, accusing him of being a thief," Gunjan Kumar (14), the younger brother of the deceased Perm, said.
Police rushed the injured boy to Tarari primary health centre, but couldn’t save him, said Tarari station house officer (SHO) Pradeep Kumar Bhaskar. "We arrested four accused people — shop owner Prakash Sharma, Abhishek Sharma, Deepak Sharma and Chhotu Sharma — on the basis of the statements of Prem’s brother, who was an eyewitness, and other family members. Intensive raids are being carried out to nab the fifth accused," said the SHO, adding an FIR was lodged against the five.
The deceased used to do the job of loading and unloading cement and iron rods at a shop, owned by a cousin of Prakash at Badka Gaon.
