Patna: Regional deputy director of education (REDD) for Tirhut division in Muzaffarpur, Virendra Narayan, was suspended by the education department following a Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) raid on Thursday.
A suspension resolution was passed by the education department on Friday, after the SVU conducted raids at his residence and other locations in connection with allegations of holding assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During his suspension, he will receive a subsistence allowance as per provisions. His headquarters will be designated as the office of the REDD, Saran division in Chhapra. Separate disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against him under the Bihar Govt Servants (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 2005.
According to the vigilance unit, Virendra is accused of possessing assets worth over Rs 3.76 crore, significantly exceeding his legitimate earnings. Large amounts of cash and bundles of notes were recovered in raids at multiple locations in Muzaffarpur, Patna and Purnia.
