“Modi should have discussed the issue with the party’s central leadership before making the comment. Since Modi is the BJP’s representative in the Nitish Kumar government, he should not have announced it unilaterally at his level,” Thakur told media persons in Delhi.

State BJP sources said the central leadership of the party was stunned by Modi’s tweet, so much so that the party’s state functionaries were asked not to give their reactions to the media.

Thakur also said that a meeting of the state BJP top brass was held three days ago in Patna, but the issue of NDA’s CM face in the 2020 assembly elections did not crop up. Among those who had attended the meeting were BJP’s national general secretary and the party’s Bihar incharge Bhupender Yadav and senior minister in the Nitish government Nand Kishore Yadav.

After the issuance of Modi’s tweet, agriculture minister Prem Kumar and the BJP’s state vice-president Mithilesh Tiwary had also criticized hm. However, when contacted Thursday, they maintained that they were not in a position to say anything on the issue.
