ARARIA: Activists of the Jan Jagaran Shakti Sangathan (JJSS) on Saturday evening took out a procession here to protest against alleged attacks on democracy by the Central government and its agencies.
The protestors shouted slogans against the Union government and slammed the misuse of ED and CBI to intimidate opposition leaders.
The procession later culminated into a 'nukkad sabha' at Chandni Chowk where several leaders, while addressing the public, demanded immediate interventions of the Supreme Court to save democracy in the country.
JJSS leaders said the arrests of Delhi government's ministers Satyendra Jain and Manish Sisodia, constant harassment of RJD president Lalu Prasad's family and the recent disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha were clear-cut examples of the Union government's attempts to harass opposition leaders. They also alleged that while opposition leaders were being targeted, non-political leaders and social activists like Medha Patkar were also not being spared by the Centre and they were being harassed through false cases.
The gathering was also addressed by CPI district secretary Dr SR Jha, Kamayani Swami, youth leader Abhishek Kumar and Naushad Alam.
