PATNA: With the arrest of two persons from East Champaran district, the Patna police on Tuesday claimed to have busted an interstate gang of thieves engaged in stealing cellphones and disposing them of in Nepal.
Senior SP (Patna) Amrit Raj said a group of thieves had stolen several cellphones from a showroom at Ashok Raj Path on September 3. The SSP, on a tip-off that a gang was active on Nepal border and operating through Nepalese agents in
Bihar, Maharashtra Madhya Pradesh, UP, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Pondicherry,
Andhra Pradesh and
Tamil Nadu, constituted a special team, led by DSP (Town) Manoj Kumar Tiwary, which arrested the kingpin
Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Raxaul, and his carrier Jitendra Sah alias Chunha, a native of Ghora Sahan Virta Tola, East Champaran.
The SSP said police recovered 50 stolen cellphones worth Rs 5 lakh, Rs 1,97,000 Nepali currency besides Rs 20,000 Indian currency from the possession of the arrested persons. He said the arrested persons admitted their involvement in the theft at Ashok Raj Path and Raja Bazaar area.
