State govt OKs plea for CCA against Anant

State govt OKs plea for CCA against Anant
Patna: The state government on Tuesday invoked Crime Control Act (CCA) against Mokama MLA Anant Singh after receiving a satisfactory reply to its query from the Patna district administration. Last week, the home department had returned the administration’s proposal in this regard seeking further clarification.
Principal secretary of home department Amir Subhani said CCA has been invoked against the MLA for one year or until the advisory board of the Patna high court rejects the order.

Now that the home department has approved CCA against the MLA, an advisory board consisting of two retired judges and one sitting judge of the Patna high court will take the final call. The board would also hear the MLA before taking the decision.
Patna district magistrate (DM) Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said the government took the decision after going through the reply of the administration carefully. “Some technical details were needed to establish before the law that the MLA could become a threat to public life and the law and order situation in the district if he comes out of the jail,” the DM said.
A case was recently lodged against Singh for allegedly threatening builder Raju Singh from inside the jail.
The don-turned-legislator won the Mokama seat as an independent candidate in 2015 assembly election. Over 32 cases are lodged against the MLA with different police stations in Patna district. The then Patna SSP Vikas Vaibhav had arrested Singh on June 24 last year.
