PATNA: The state BJP on Wednesday decided to conduct weeklong ‘Sewa Saptah’ programme as part of its celebration of PM Narendra Modi’s birthday falling on September 17. The party would also organize general awareness and mass contact programme on the abrogation of Article 370 and withdrawal of 35A of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The weeklong programme would be organized from September 14 to 20 across the state by the BJP’s various organizational units.

State BJP spokesman and former MLA Prem Ranjan Patel said during the ‘Sewa Saptah’, the party workers would engage in social service work like organizing blood donation, medical check-up and eye camps, as well as distributing fruits among patients in hospitals, motivating the rich people to adopt poor children to take care of their education and conducting cleanliness and plantation drives.

“The aim is to give a message to the people of the state that the BJP not only does politics in the interest of the nation, but is also committed to social service,” Patel said.

The decision with regard to the twin programmes was taken at a state-level workshop in which incharges of the programmes of various districts and assembly constituencies participated. While the party’s national secretary Sudha Yadav was the central observer at the workshop, its state vice-president and MLA Mithilesh Tiwary and Rajesh Verma have been made state conveners of the programme regarding Article 370 and 35A. Similarly, senior functionaries Sushil Choudhary and Pramod Chandravanshi would steer the programme.
