(22),
Kundan Jha
(25) and
Avinash Kumar (30). Kishore and Naveen hailed form Jicho locality under Goradih police station. Kundan and Avinash, on the other hand, hailed from Sardho and Sabour, respectively. Bhagalpur DM Subrat Kumar Sen said the cause of the death of the four people was being ascertained. “Two people died late on Saturday and the remaining two on Sunday. A team comprising SDO, SHO and SDPO has been formed to probe the matter. The family members of two deceased said they were suffering from health ailments,” he said.
He added, "The police will probe the matter from all angles."
Sources said the autopsy of two victims - Kundan and Avinash - was done while the two who died on Saturday were cremated by the family members without the knowledge of police. One Chhotu Yadav (25), a resident of Jicho, is undergoing treatment at Mayaganj Hospital in Bhagalpur. Hospital superintendent Dr Asim Kumar Das said Chhotu was admitted on Sunday after he complained of breathlessness.
"The patient vomited at least thrice. The doctors have kept him under observation. Avinash died at the hospital. Prima facie, it appears that he had eaten something toxic. The hospital handed over his body to the family members after the postmortem," Dr Das added.
Another ill person, Brajesh Kumar (40), a resident of Jicho, was undergoing treatment at an eye hospital as he has lost his vision.
Meanwhile, the toll in suspected hooch tragedy in Gopalganj rose to nine on Sunday with the death of four more people, police said. Five people had died between Friday and Saturday. The fresh four victims were identified as Harendra Yadav and Hiralal Sah of Shivrajpur village under Kuchaykot police station, Saheblal Yadav of Ramgarwah village and Om Prakash Bhagat of Phulwaria village.
On March 8, three people had died in Dhebar village under Daronda police station in Siwan and two in Bettiah's Khaptola village due to suspected hooch consumption.
