Patna: A married couple was brutally killed and their daughter critically injured at Hetimpur village under Jamo police station area in Siwan district on Monday, after their relatives allegedly attacked them on allegation of practising witchcraft. The assailants first attacked the couple—Awadh Kishor Gupta (50) and his wife Rita Devi (45)—with a knife and then shot them. Their daughter Anshu Kumar (22) was knifed.
Police arrested four suspects and seized a car in this connection. Anshu is undergoing treatment at Siwan Sadar Hospital, police said.
Police said Awadh’s relative, Deepak Sah, lived with his family in Mashrak in Saran district. However, Deepak’s family accused Awadh’s wife, Rita, of practising witchcraft.
On Monday, around 11am, Deepak arrived at Hetimpur village with three family members. Awadh and his wife were first stabbed and then shot, leading to their death. When Anshu tried to intervene, she was attacked with a knife.
Upon receiving information, Jamo police and Siwan SP, Manoj Kumar Tiwari, reached the crime place.
The SP said, “Some empty bullet shells were recovered from the spot. Four people, including Deepak and his family members, were arrested. A car used by them to reach Awadh’s house was also seized.”
He said Awadh and Deepak were relatives. Earlier, Deepak and Awadh’s houses were opposite to each other. Deepak and his family alleged that Rita was practising witchcraft. Deepak’s wife had a miscarriage some months ago and he suspected that Rita was behind it.
“The arrested accused are being interrogated,” SP added.
