Bettiah: A sub-inspector posted at Chautarwa police station under Bagaha police district in West Champaran was suspended for alleged negligence in handling of a dowry death case, officials said on Tuesday.
According to an official, the action was taken after a review of Chautarwa police station case no. 251/2025 by SP on Monday.
SP, Bagaha, Ramanand Kaushal, said during the review it was found that the investigating officer, sub-inspector Rahul Kumar Singh, failed to take action against the primary accused Amit Shahi, a resident of Ahiraulia village under Chautarwa police station area, despite evidence against him.
He said in the past seven months, neither was the accused arrested nor were efforts made to obtain an arrest warrant. The lapse indicated negligence in duty and an irresponsible approach in the investigation of a serious criminal case.
During the review, it was also found that the settlement application submitted by the accused party was recorded verbatim in the case diary, which is against standard prosecution procedures.
Taking serious note of the lapses in the investigation of such a sensitive case, the SP ordered the immediate suspension of SI Rahul Kumar Singh, who was the investigating officer of the case. He has been placed under suspension with subsistence allowance pending further departmental action.
