Shahabuddin anticipates life threat

PATNA: Former RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin on Tuesday submitted a petition anticipating life threat at the hands of the state government. The petition was submitted before a special court, Siwan jail in Siwan. The ADJ Ajay Kumar Srivastava has sought for a report in this connection from the home secretary Amir Subhani.

Shahabuddin’s counsel Abhay Kumar Rajan, who submitted the petition on behalf of Shahabuddin who is currently under judicial custody and in Bhagalpur special central jail. According to the petition, in 2006, the then SDPO Sudhir Kumar had attacked the former MP to eliminate his life on the instigation of the state government. Rajan said, “Thereafter the attack, Shahabuddin had suffered slipdisk and undergone surgery at the AIIMS, Delhi. Even now my client is unwell and suffering from acute pain but the state government is not paying any heed to his plea.”

According to the petition submitted by Rajan, Shahabuddin is being targeted as he belongs to a minority community. “He was transferred to Bhagalpur central special jail without taking permission of the court. Following the direction of high court, no under trial prisoner and prisoners of special court would not be transferred without the prior permission of the court. But he was shifted from Siwan court to Bhagalpur jail a couple of months back,” told Rajan to TOI over phone.

He further added that Shahabuddin has been suffering from acute spinal pain and in spite of the direction of the medical board constituted at the state level, he is not being shifted to AIIMS where he had undergone surgery earlier. After the killing of a Hindi newspaper journalist Rajdev Rajan, he was shifted to Bhagalpur special central jail in May.

In December 2015, the same special court in Siwan sentenced life imprisonment to the former RJD MP along with three other accused in connection with the brutal murder of two brothers by pouring acid on them 11 years ago in Siwan.
