Patna: Former
RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin is set to walk out of jail after 11 years with the Patna high court on Wednesday granting him bail in the 2014 Rajiv
Roshan murder case. The Siwan strongman, according to sources, may be released from Bhagalpur special central jail either on Friday or Saturday.
Rajiv Roshan was killed in 2014, a few days before he was set to depose in court in the murder case of his brothers, Satish and Girish. The duo were killed in an acid attack in 2004, and Rajiv Roshan was a witness. Last year, a special Siwan court had awarded life imprisonment to Shahabuddin in the case.
Three sons of one Chandrashekhar
Prasad
were abducted from their Goshala Road house in Siwan on August 16, 2004 and taken to Pratappur village where acid was poured on Girish and Satish, resulting in their death. Rajeev Roshan, who somehow managed to escape, was killed on June 16, 2014.
Shahabuddin's counsel Abhay Kumar Rajan said police have submitted the chargesheet in Roshan murder case, but the trial is yet to start. "Shahabuddin has been convicted in five cases by the lower court and trials are going on in many other cases. It may take a day or two before he walks out of the jail," the sources added. The former MP was recently shifted to Bhagalpur special central jail from Siwan jail over security reasons. "Since he is originally an inmate of Siwal jail, the legal processes like filing of bail bond and the release order will be processed at Siwan only. We will release him only after the person carrying the release order reaches Bhagalpur jail," said an official of Bhagalpur central jail.
Shahabuddin has been listed as an 'A-type' history-sheeter by the Bihar police. 'A-type' describes criminals who are beyond reform. During his first term, chief minister
Nitish Kumar had set up a number of special courts for trial of history-sheeters.
Shahabuddin had represented Siwan in Lok Sabha for four times from 1996 to 2009 as member of Lalu Prasad's RJD.
