Sewa Kutir reunites 40 beggars with families

Chhapra: The ‘Sewa Kutir' in Saran, operating under the Mukhyamantri Bhikshavriti Nivaran Yojna (MBNY), has so far rescued 73 beggars, of whom 40 have been successfully reunited with their families. Launched on March 11, 2024, the facility provides shelter and care to mentally ill people engaged in begging.Rahul Kumar, assistant director of social service (ADSS) and in-charge of the Chhapra ‘Kutir', said on Friday that the most recent beneficiary was Manoj Giri alias Kartik Giri, a resident of Panapur-Akhtiyarpur village in Muzaffarpur district. "He was picked up on July 4, 2024 from Chhapra Bypass Road while begging. With the help of the field coordinator and caretaker, he was brought to ‘Sewa Kutir'," Kumar said."As per protocol, he was given a bath, clean clothes and food before being provided accommodation," he added.During conversations with staff, Manoj appeared to be mentally disturbed and was given medical attention by the Kutir's doctor. "Following treatment and improvement in his condition, Manoj began recalling details about his past and family," said the ADSS. Manoj revealed that he had three brothers and one sister. His father, who performed religious rituals for a living, and his mother both passed away in 2014. He later married, but his wife left him, leading to a deep emotional shock and eventual depression, after which he abandoned his home.The Kutir coordinator managed to contact Manoj's brother, Santosh Giri, who was overjoyed to hear from him and took him home.
