PATNA: At least eight Buddhist monks sustained injuries after the Gaya-bound bus they were traveling in fell into a roadside pond in Jehanabad district of Bihar on Wednesday morning, police said.

The incident occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle in the Karauna area, causing it to fall into the pond, according to a senior police officer.

The injured monks, who are primarily from Vietnam, Myanmar, and the United States, were initially treated at a local health facility.

Three of them were later transferred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for more advanced medical care. The remaining monks were released after receiving first aid treatment.

Superintendent of police Arvind Pratap Singh stated that the bus was carrying eight Buddhist monks at the time of the accident.

He also mentioned that an investigation into the incident has been launched to determine the cause of the accident and any potential negligence on the part of the driver or other parties involved.
