Patna: Police on Friday arrested seven men, who allegedly gang-raped a newly-wed woman in Kishanganj on Sept 9, when she was returning home from a local fair with her minor nephew. The accused took her to a tea garden and allegedly gang-raped her for several hours. They left her when she became unconscious, police said on Saturday.
According to the police, the accused intercepted the woman and her nephew, harassed them, and assaulted the boy when he tried to intervene. They then forcibly took the woman to a nearby tea garden, where she was allegedly gang-raped for over several hours. The perpetrators reportedly fled the spot after the woman lost consciousness. She was found unconscious the next day, on Sept 10. However, taking action on a complaint filed by the woman’s family, the police arrested all the accused on Friday.
Kishanganj SP Sagar Kumar said, “The arrested men have confessed to the crime during the interrogation. Statement of the rape survivor has been recorded in front of a female police official, and a case registered against three named and four unidentified persons. After medical examination of the accused, they were sent to jail under judicial custody. A speedy trial will be conducted against them.”
The SP further said those involved the gang-rape have been identified as Rajesh Tudu, Supal Murmu, Santosh Tudu, Sakal Tudu, Buddhalal Tuddu, Buddhalal Hasda alias Dara Singh Hasda, and Sushant Das.
