Second-year BA student found hanging at Patna hostel
Patna: A second-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) student was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room in the Naya Tola area of Kadamkuan, Patna, late Sunday. Prima facie, the incident appears to be a case of suicide, police said on Monday.
The victim – identified as Rishabh Raj (21), a resident of Chhatapur Kathi in Supaul district – had been preparing for the railway examinations and resided at a hostel in the state capital.
Rajiv Kumar, SHO of Kadamkuan, clarified that contrary to social media speculation, Raj, a third-semester student, was not a BPSC candidate. "He arrived in Patna from his hometown on Sunday morning. It appears to be a case of suicide," he said.
"No suicide note was found in his hostel room. A post-mortem examination is being conducted, and the police are investigating the incident before proceeding further. The FSL team was called on Monday to the spot to gather evidence. His parents were informed about the incident, and their statement will be recorded," the SHO said.
According to police, they received information around 10pm that a youth had died by suicide at a hostel in Kazipur, Naya Tola. When they reached the spot, they found that the door of the room was locked from inside, a police officer said, adding, "The other boarders saw the body hanging from the ceiling fan through the window. The police broke the door open and brought down the body. The police said that the reason for the suicide was not known yet."
