Sasaram sadar hospital sans gynaecologist for last 15 years

Sasaram: Imagine a government hospital that conducted about 30,000 deliveries, none of them Caesarian in the last 10 years. And the hospital has done so without a gynaecologist? Sasaram sadar hospital has achieved this 'dubious feat' in connivance with private clinics allegedly to get the cut money sanctioned for Janani Suraksha Yojana.
The hospital is doing without a gynaecologist for the last 15 years.The absence of a gynaecologist at the hospital compounds the problem of rape victims also as they have to run from pillar to post for medical examination. Hospital records show, this year alone, about 1,000 babies have been delivered here.
Rohtas civil surgeon Dr Rama Shankar Tiwary said posts of gynecologists are vacant since long and efforts are on to fill them up. Sources also said that pregnant women get the benefit of Janani Surksha Yojana by enrolling themselves with the sadar hospital for delivery. But they, in fact, take the service of private clinics running in and around the hospital.
The civil surgeon said that in Rohtas district four gynecologists, two of them on contract basic, are working but none of them joined the Sasaram sadar hospital. The two gynaecologists working at Bikramganj and Dehri-on-Sone sub-divisional hospitals were transferred to Sasaram many times but instead of joining here they went on long leave.
Incidentally, the hospital, which falls in the home district of health minister Ramdhani Singh, has a functioning ICU and NSIU. But its records do not show even a minor surgery performed during the last several years. Reason, there is no paramedical and medical staff to run these units. The warranty of equipment has expired without rendering any service. The records of the hospital also say that except in few cases, fracture cases are referred to private nursing clinics.
Not only this, specialized doctors have been appointed in PHCs of rural area and doctors on contract are serving in the sadar hospital.
