The incident took place at around 10.15am in the morning when just few two to three customers were in the bank along with five bank employees soon after the bank had opened. The criminals decamped with the looted money within three to four minutes from the bank. Not a single shot was fired by the criminals during the loot.

Rohit Kumar Gupta said that four criminals with arms and ammunition entered the bank and took everyone hostage at gunpoint.

“After overpowering everyone, the criminals ordered one of the bank employees to open the iron chest in which the currency was kept. At least Rs 4 lakh was looted from the currency chest while Rs 59 lakh was looted from one of the customers who had reached the bank to deposit it,” the SHO said.

He said that all the persons were locked inside a room inside the branch before the criminals fled the spot.

“Four criminals had entered inside the bank while the possibility is that two more were outside the bank building to keep an eye on the surroundings. Some eyewitnesses said that the four criminals who had entered the bank had fled on two different bikes,” the SHO said.

Quoting the bank officials and customers, the SHO said all four criminals had covered their faced with clothes while they were wearing scarf around neck.

“The customers and bank employees were locked inside a room in the branch after which the criminals had fled,” the SHO said, adding raids were on to nab the suspects.

Since January to October this year, altogether eight incidents of bank robberies had taken place across Bihar.
