MUZAFFARPUR: On a day tight security arrangements were in place for

CM Nitish Kumar

’s visit,

Rs 24 lakh

was looted from an ATM kiosk near Kachchi Pakki Chauk in

Muzaffarpur

on Tuesday while cash was being loaded into the ATM.

The daring robery took place during the CM’s visit for the fourth phase of his Jal Jivan Hariyali Yatra in the district. Several top police officials, including DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, were in town to attend the CM’s meeting in which several government schemes operational in the four districts of Tirhut zone were reviewed.

The incident took place around 2pm when a cash van of a private security agency reached the ATM of a private bank located near a graveyard at Kachchi Pakki Chowk to upload cash. Two armed men arrived on a motorbike and held six staffers, including two guards, of the private agency at gunpoint inside the ATM.

Raju Kumar, one of the four staffers, said, “I and one of my colleagues took the steel box inside the ATM kiosk when the two men entered flashing their guns. They forced us to open the lock of the box, took all the money and fled towards the Chowk.”

Deputy SP (west) Krishna Murari Prasad and the SDPO of Saraiya, Rajesh Kumar Sharma, reached the spot with reinforcements and blocked all entry and exit points to

Muzaffarpur district

to nab the robbers. “We are reviewing the CCTV footage installed in the area and will soon catch the culprits,” he said, adding, all four staffers of the private security company have been detained and are being questioned.
