Row erupts over ‘insult’ to PM’s mother at Tejashwi rally in Vaishali

Patna: A fresh controversy has erupted in the state as a video allegedly showing abuse hurled at PM Narendra Modi’s mother went viral during the RJD’s Bihar Adhikar Yatra, sparking outrage from the BJP. While the RJD has dismissed the clip as doctored, the incident has intensified tensions within Lalu Prasad’s family with elder son Tej Pratap Yadav demanding the immediate arrest of Mahua MLA Mukesh Roushan, a close aide of Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, highlighting rifts over responsibility and political accountability ahead of the assembly elections.

The video, allegedly from Mahua assembly constituency in Vaishali, shows Tejashwi and MLA Roushan on stage during a rally. BJP leaders have demanded immediate action. Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary said, “RJD goons, in the presence of Tejashwi, shamed Bihar by abusing the mother of the country’s PM. This is an insult to democracy. BJP will instruct all its district presidents to take immediate retaliatory action against such incidents.” He added, “If Lalu’s family comes to power, even by mistake, they will once again establish ‘jungle raj’ and terror in Bihar.”


Union minister and LJP(RV) chief Chirag Paswan termed the incident “extremely unfortunate and shameful.” “This incident has exposed the RJD’s petty mentality, which its top leadership never takes seriously,” he said.

Union minister Giriraj Singh said, “You (RJD) people are not going to improve. The people of Bihar will answer you in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.” Union minister Nityanand Rai alleged, “Lalu’s family has made abuse, hooliganism, jungle raj, massacre and corruption their culture and etiquette. The people of Bihar never compromise with their dignity and this time they will not leave the people of the Grand Alliance worthy of coming to power.”

Amid the political storm, Tej Pratap Yadav, Lalu’s elder son, demanded the immediate arrest of MLA Roushan. Speaking to reporters in Patna, he said, “The govt should immediately arrest the Mahua MLA and send him to jail for insulting the PM's mother, or I will be forced to launch an agitation. A mother is a mother. She gives birth to her child, first carrying it in her womb for nine months. Those who pointed fingers and hurled abuses should be booked and sent to jail.”

The Mahua MLA, however, rejected the allegations and described the video as “doctored.” He said, “The NDA people are editing a video to falsely claim that someone used offensive language against the Prime Minister's mother. I fail to understand how the NDA could stoop so low to make political gains. It is not in my culture or the culture of any leader or worker to hurl abuses at anyone.” He added that if the video were genuine, Tejashwi’s voice would have been audible, as 12 sound boxes and 20 loudspeakers had been installed for his speech.

RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan accused the BJP of creating a conspiracy to distract the public. “If the video clip is from Tejashwi’s address, then where did his voice go when he was speaking on a microphone, which was being heard far and wide? It is surprising that the audio of the person speaking indecently about the PM in front of the stage was recorded, but the voice of Tejashwi, who was speaking on the microphone on the stage, was lost,” he said.

This is the second such incident after Darbhanga during Congress’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ on Aug 27, highlighting the recurring tension around opposition rallies and the charged atmosphere ahead of Bihar’s assembly elections.
