PATNA: A youth declared ‘dead’ by his father to save him from jail has been found to be living with his girlfriend with whom he eloped two years back after the girl’s parents opposed their relations.
Police have arrested the boy from Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay railway junction in UP while he was returning home.
Police said 18-year-old Ravi Ranjan, a resident of Kochas police station in Rohtas district, was madly in love with a local girl and wanted to marry her, but the girl’s parents opposed.
Eventually, the boy eloped with the teenaged girl in October 2021 after which a case of kidnapping was registered against him.
The entire story took a curious turn when a mutilated body was found in an abandoned well near Kochas some 10 days later and the boy’s father Basant Ram identified it as his son’s body and also cremated it. The boy’s father even registered a case of murder against the girl’s parents.
Police said after eloping with the girl, the boy reached Pune and worked in a local factory. It was here that the differences developed in their relations and the boy began assaulting the girl.
“When the boy started beating up the girl, she stealthily made a call to her parents and provided all information about his whereabouts. She even convinced the boy to return home but gave all details to us. Acting on the information, we reached Pt Deen Dayan junction and arrested the boy yesterday,” a police official with Kochas police station
Vijay Ram told TOI over phone on Wednesday.
He said the boy was trying to flee the scene by crossing the railway line instead of moving through the platform. The girl has also been recovered.
