CHHAPRA: Resentment has started brewing in the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) after the INDI Alliance gave Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat to Congress in its seat-sharing deal. However, the party is yet to announce its candidate from here. Maharajganj seat will go to the polls on May 25 in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections.
This decision has irked RJD’s Randhir Kumar Singh, who contested this seat in 2019 and secured second position. Randhir, son of former Maharajganj MP Prabhu Nath Singh, who was expecting the ticket this time, expressed his anguish over the party’s decision on Friday and blamed it for their failure to keep this seat.
“My father and the entire family members, including supporters, have been committed to the RJD, but this party has dropped this seat in the lap of Congress ignoring our contribution and claim over it. A meeting of the party workers from all the 14 blocks under this constituency has been convened on April 28 to decide future course of action. In the meeting, it will be resolved whether I should contest as an independent or join any other party,” said Randhir.
As of now, only Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal as its candidate from here. Earlier, MLC Sachchidanand Rai had also expressed his desire to contest as independent candidate from here. If it happens, the election in Maharajganj may witness a triangular fight between Sigriwal, Randhir and Sachidanand. But, if Congress also fields its candidate it may be quadrangular.
