PATNA: Rani, a one horned rhinoceros, gave birth to a female baby rihno at the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park on Saturday. With this, the population of rhinos have gone upto 7.

PATNA: Rani, a one horned rhinoceros, gave birth to a female baby rihno at the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park on Saturday. With this, the population of rhinos have gone upto 7.
The baby rhino weighs about 55 kg and is in good health, according to the zoo director, Ranvir Singh. Due to excessive heat, both the mother and the baby have kept themselves confined to the cage.
According to zoo officials, the mother rhino is 12-year-old and this is her first issue.

Singh said that the baby rhino is perfectly alright even though the delivery took place after a labour pain of over ten hours.Singh said that another interesting part of this birth is that in normal conditions, the gestetaion period is 480 days, but in this case, the rhino was born after 515 days of gestation period.
Zoo fire: Two fire tenders and one potable fire fighting pump were pressed into service to bring the fire which broke out in the zoo, under control.
