Retired PMCH doctor alleges property encroachment
Patna: A retired PMCH doctor has accused a local builder of illegally encroaching on her Sri Krishnapuri property—reportedly worth several crores—and using intimidation to force a distress sale. The matter surfaced after Dr Veena Bhatia lodged a complaint at the local police station three days ago, following which police sought documentary proof from both sides.
Secretariat SDPO-II, Saket Kumar, told this newspaper on Thursday that the issue came to light when Dr Bhatia approached the police. “The other party has claimed that they had an agreement with the property owner and had paid some money. Notices have been issued to both sides to submit evidence. The investigating officer has asked the accused to provide proof of any payments or agreements, but no response has been received yet. Investigation is ongoing, and strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty,” he said.
According to Dr Bhatia, the harassment began soon after she moved from Patna to Delhi to escape mounting pressure. After her relocation, miscreants allegedly started encroaching on her shops. Alerted by neighbouring shopkeepers, she returned to Patna to intervene. She now claims that she is routinely followed and intimidated whenever she steps out of her Boring Road flat under the SK Puri police station limits. She alleged that the accused have been attempting to force her to flee and surrender her property.
In her complaint, Dr Bhatia stated that a man named Anoop Kumar initially approached her with seemingly genuine negotiations to buy the property. However, when she insisted on a valuation based on current market rates, his behaviour allegedly turned coercive. He reportedly took her property documents “for inspection,” drafted a sale agreement without her consent and began pressuring shop tenants to vacate despite no deal being finalized.
“Detailed statements are being recorded, including from the complainant. Police are also verifying the background of the other party. Initial checks show the person previously worked with Airtel in a technical role and has recently moved into real estate. No criminal record has surfaced so far, but inquiries are underway across police stations to ascertain any past involvement in intimidation or similar offences,” the SDPO added.
