Patna: A retired CISF officer and his daughter-in-law died in a road accident in Jamui while returning from a reception on Sunday. The car, carrying six family members, crashed into a tree on the Chakai-Deoghar main road, killing two occupants on the spot. Four others sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital in Deoghar. Police suspect that the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The family had attended their nephew’s wedding in the Sikandra locality. Police have taken custody of the bodies and begun an investigation.The deceased were identified as 70-year-old retired CISF officer Krishnandan Singh and his daughter-in-law Rinku Devi, 40. They were residents of Deoghar in Jharkhand.

Krishnandan’s family had travelled to Kaithwara village in the Sikandra area of Jamui to attend the wedding of his nephew Rahul.Chandramandi SHO Gajendra Kumar said, “After the reception ended, the entire family was returning to Deoghar by car around 3 am on Sunday. Near Basbutiya turn in the Chandramandi police station area, the car suddenly went out of control and collided with a eucalyptus tree by the roadside.
The collision was so severe that the car was badly damaged and 2 people died on the spot.”He added that preliminary investigation suggested the accident occurred because the driver fell asleep. The vehicle was being driven by Krishnandan’s son Lalan Kumar, a contractor by profession.“Six people from the same family were in the car during the accident, of which 4 were seriously injured and all were immediately admitted to Deoghar hospital,” he said.Krishnandan had retired as sub-inspector in 2019. Rinku had married Lalan in 1997. The couple has four daughters and one son, the youngest child.The injured include Lalan, Priya Bharti, Khushboo Bharti and 10-year-old Ganesh, who are undergoing treatment. Relatives have gathered in Deoghar, where preparations are under way for the last rites of the deceased.
