PATNA: Agitated over the murder of a Patna-City based businessman, Ram Narayan Sah alias Raju, 60, late on Friday evening, the residents of Chamdoria Road blocked Ashok Raj Path at Lucky Biscuit Mor, Hajiganj, for over three hours on Saturday.
Three armed criminals had shot at Sah inside his shop-cum-residence on Chamdoria Road under City Chowk police station at around 8.45 pm on Friday.
Sah was admitted to PMCH where he later succumbed to his injuries late on Friday night.
On Saturday morning, the agitated residents blocked the Ashok Raj Path at Lucky Biscuit Mor and placed burning tyres at different points. They did not allow a single vehicle to pass through and even damaged the window-panes of some three-wheelers. Panic prevailed among the vehicle owners and office goers as they had a tough time in reaching their destinations. Many took the Old By Pass Road to reach their offices and working places thus increasing traffic load on this road.
The residents raised slogans against the local police, demanding immediate security for the business community of Patna City. The road blockade was later lifted at around 1 pm when Sah's body arrived there from PMCH. His last rites was performed at Khajekallan Ghat.
Though the family members remained tight-lipped over the reason behind Sah's murder, some of the relatives apprehended that the criminals might have come to loot cash and gunned down Sah when he resisted them. They said that when the family members reached the shop, they found not a single paisa in the cash box.
City Chowk police station SHO D N Mahato said that an FIR against unknown persons has been lodged with the police station concerned. He said that raids are on to arrest those involved in the killing.
Meanwhile, police sources revealed that three persons have been picked up for interrogation in this connection.
