PATNA: Overcast conditions persisted in the city on Tuesday as the monsoon remained active throughout the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall in the southern and eastern regions of the state on Wednesday.
"The southwest monsoon remained normal in the state in the last 24 hours. Heavy rainfall was recorded at one or two places in Rohtas district. Light to moderate rainfall occurred in most places in the southern and northeastern parts of the state and many places in other regions," said Kumar Gaurav, an official at Patna Meteorological Centre.
On Tuesday, Valmiki Nagar received 26.6mm of rainfall followed by Supaul (18.0mm), Chhapra (17.2mm), Katihar (16.5mm) and Aurangabad (12.5mm). Gaya, where thousands of pilgrims have gathered to perform pinddaan, witnessed heavy showers on Tuesday as well, recording 12.5mm of rainfall.
"We are expecting heavy rainfall in one or two places in West Champaran, East Champaran, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Gaya, Kishanganj, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Gopalganj, Buxar, Siwan, Purnia, Katihar, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Sheohar districts in the next 24 hours. In addition, most places in the northern, southwestern and south-central parts of the state and many places in the remainder of the state are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. Thunderstorm and lightning are also likely at one or two places in most districts across the state," said Gaurav.
According to a report by the Patna Meteorological Centre, a low-pressure area that had formed over southwest Jharkhand and adjoining northern Chhattisgarh now lies over southern Jharkhand.
Conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of southwest monsoon from the remaining parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and some parts of east Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra during the next 2-3 days, meteorologists said.
