Railways to conduct training programme course with IIT-Patna
Patna: Indian Railways has decided to conduct a two-week advanced training programme course in collaboration with IIT-Patna at Bihta campus, aimed at strengthening technical expertise for the maintenance of modern train systems.
The in-house training course which is scheduled to begin from Feb 9, will be attended by at least 25 railway officials drawn from different regions of the country. The programme is designed to provide advanced technical exposure and hands-on knowledge related to the upkeep and operation of high-speed and next-generation trains, said Director General, Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IRIMEE), Jamalpur Animesh Sinha.
According to Sinha, the training will focus on better maintenance of Vande Bharat semi high speed trains as well as other superfast rolling stock, including MEMU electrical units and similar modern train systems. “Emphasis will be laid on advanced diagnostics, preventive maintenance techniques and the latest technological upgrades in railway electrification and coach maintenance,” he said.
The initiative is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency, improve safety standards and ensure smoother performance of premium train services, Sinha said adding collaboration with Patna IIT will help bring global best practices into the Indian railway system.
Upon completion of the programme, the trained officials are expected to play a key role in upgrading maintenance practices across their respective zones, contributing to improved reliability and passenger comfort on high-speed and suburban rail services, he said adding it would be the first of its kind training programme on ‘electrical safety’ and ‘traction systems’ of trainset marking an important step in further strengthening technical capacity in advanced railway traction systems .
