PATNA: A seven-member delegation of lawyers of the Patna District Bar Association led by general secretary Jai Prakash Singh and vice-president Deep Narain Dwivedi met the chief minister on Thursday and submitted a memorandum seeking security to lawyers and arrest of assailants of the lawyers. The chief minister issued directives to the home commissioner, DGP, DM and SSP of Patna to take action against the criminals involved in killing of lawyers.
The law minister, Shakeel Ahmed Khan, was present during the meeting. According to Singh, the CM assured them to meet the demands for security of lawyers. The DGP asked the delegation to give a list of all the slain lawyers of the state on the basis of which action would be taken within a month. The CM also asked the home commissioner and DGP to initiate measures for grant of arm licences to lawyers and providing security on the recommendation of respective bar associations of the state. The delegation reminded the CM that such assurances had been given after the murder of a lawyer of Masaurhi, Ram Uday Sharma, in 2000 but never fulfilled.Members of the Bihar Yuva Adhivakta Kalayan Samiti participated in the lawyers' procession across the state.
