Patna University girls outshine boys in 24 of 41 honours courses

PATNA: The girl students of Patna University (PU) have once again outsmarted the boys by securing top positions in as many as 24 out of 41 honours courses in the undergraduate examinations of 2018, according to a provisional list of toppers announced by PU recently. All these toppers will be awarded gold medals at the university’s 102nd foundation day function to be held at Wheeler Senate Hall on October 1.
Interestingly, the maximum number of toppers (14) are from Patna Women’s College alone. The college with potential for excellence having A Grade from NAAC has already been declared an autonomous institution by the UGC. There are five subject toppers each from Magadh Mahila College, another NAAC-accreditated A grade college, and Patna Science College. Surprisingly, three toppers are from the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), which has been facing a rough weather for the last couple of years owing to derecognition of its courses by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB).
Union minister of state for external affairs M J Akbar is likely to deliver the Foundation Day lecture. Governor-cum-chancellor Lalji Tandon is also likely to grace the occasion.

Conventional courses: Saloni Priya (Hindi), Dhruvee Sinha (English), Kaushiki Rani (Sanskrit), Md Shams Chisty (Urdu) Ashish Kumar (Maithili), Bikash Kumar (philosophy), Richa Jyotshna (music), Shikha (history), Ankita Kumari (sociology), Shivani Nandini (political science), Vaishali Singh (economics), Smriti Rani (psychology), Akanksha Priyadarshini (geography), Anand Kumar (ancient Indian history), Resha (home science), Anand Prakash (mathematics), Alok Ranjan (statistics), Gayanti Kumari (physics), Nibha Sharma (chemistry), Zainab Rahman (botany), Taskeen Fatema (zoology), Amitabh Kumar Mishra (geology), Shashi Ranjan Sinha (mathematics), Sudhanshu Ranjan (statistics) and Bharat Golchha (commerce).
Vocational/self-financing courses: Simran Gupta (advertising & sales management), Anjali Kumari (biotechnology), Spriha (computer applications science), Abhinav Narain Sinha (computer applications arts), Mrinal Shree (business administration), Khushi Kishore (communicative English), Abhishek Kumar Gupta (environmental science), Pankaj Singh (functional English), Moni Kumari (industrial microbiology), Randhira Kumari (mass communications), Pushpanjali Kumari (social work), Annu Kumari (education), Mohammad Tarique and Debashish Pandit Paul (library and information science for 2017-18 and 2016-17 sessions respectively) and Kishan Kumar (fine arts).
