patna: members of the patna university employees’ association executive offered a day-long dharna at the university office on tuesday to press their long-pending demands. the dharna was led by the working president and secretary, respectively, of the association, krishna kumar kunwar and mukesh kumar. demands of the agitating employees include implementation of central pay scale, payment of salary for the month of august, 2000, arrears of bonus and time-bound promotions. the dharna would continue on wednesday. prize distribution: rajneesh kumar and priyanka sinha were awarded first and second prizes, respectively, in the science seminar organised by the zoology department of the patna university as a part of week-long science day celebrations. iti and ashu singh bagged the first two prizes in the science quiz competition, whereas priyanka sinha and ragini mishra and farhat naaz got the first and second prizes, respectively, in the science exhibition. pu vice-chancellor k k jha gave away prizes to the winners. former vice-chancellor s n ahsan, nalanda open university pro-vice-chancellor usha singh, emeritus professor of geology n c ghose, science college principal j thakur and head of the zoology department a nath also spoke on the occasion. plea for central varsity: patna university syndics ramesh kumar and fulena razak and senator p n pal have urged the union government to initiate steps for conversion of pu into a central university. this university happens to be the seventh oldest university in the country. they also demanded immediate implementation of revised ugc scales of pay.
